Ireland’s climate is shaped by the Atlantic Ocean and the Gulf Stream, giving it a mild and temperate feel year-round. Summers rarely exceed 75°F (24°C), while winters generally stay above freezing, with average temperatures around 40–50°F (4–10°C). Rainfall is spread fairly evenly throughout the year, but the west coast—especially counties Kerry, Clare, and Galway—receives more frequent showers. The weather can change quickly, so locals often say you can experience “four seasons in a day.” Visitors should pack layers, a waterproof jacket, sturdy walking shoes, and perhaps a compact umbrella. For photographers, the mix of sun and clouds often creates stunning lighting over Ireland’s landscapes.
