One of the highlights of the horse and pony circuit, the day will see 11 races contested on the silky sands of Beál Bán, starting at 1pm sharp. With a total prize fund of €4,500, a large field of competitors is anticipated from all over Munster and beyond. A donkey derby will also provide a fun spectacle on the day.Huge effort has gone into the staging of the races of Beál Bán and according to Seamus Ó Laoithe, Cathaoirleach of Coiste Ráiseanna Bheál Bán; the day has evolved from a purely racing event to a real family day which can be enjoyed by everyone."The history of racing in Beál Bán goes back to 1952; we revived the festival a number of years ago and it has been very successful since. This is out 11th year and it is going from strength to strength," he said. "We have nine races scheduled plus two consolation races and there is sure to be plenty of excellent racing action. However, we will also have market stalls, bouncy castles for children and live music."
